Mitchelmore Engineering Company (Meco) was contracted by the Department of National Defence (DND) to assess subsurface soil and rock conditions and to provide recommendations for earthworks and foundation design for a new three story Marine Security Operations Center, located at CFB Halifax. Recomendations were made for a combined spread footing and pile foundation system.
The geotechnical investigation consited of nine boreholes drilled 3m into rock, with continuous split spoon sampling, and standard penetration tests (SPT) to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the soil.
Environmental samples were also collected for an intial screening for hydrocarbons, metals, and PCB's at the site.
